Highlights are a beautiful way to add dimension and brightness to your hair, but it’s important to understand what the process involves—especially if it’s your first time.
Highlights work by lifting the natural colour pigment out of the hair. This means the hair structure is opened during the process, so it’s normal for highlighted hair to feel drier than untreated hair. Proper aftercare is essential to keep your hair healthy and looking its best.
Over time, toner will gradually fade. This is a normal part of having highlights, and regular toning appointments or at-home maintenance products may be needed to keep the colour fresh.
Both hair colour and hair condition require ongoing maintenance after highlights. If you’re not keen on investing extra time or effort into hair care, a lower-contrast highlight or a more blended look may be a better option for you.
For clients who want a softer, lower-maintenance result, colour lightening (rather than bleach lightening) can be an alternative. However, colour lightening works best on hair that is naturally brown, and the final result will be more subtle compared to traditional bleach highlights.
The best highlights are not just about colour—they’re about choosing a look that suits your lifestyle, maintenance preference, and hair condition.
If you’re unsure, a professional consultation can help you decide the most suitable option for you.
